~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
William (Bill) J Lewis was born near Watts, Oklahoma on January 3, 1927 and departed this life February 15, 2019 at the age of 92. He grew up in Adair County on the family farm, the son of Arthur George Lewis and Lula Pearl Thompson Lewis. He graduated from Watts High School and was drafted into the U S Army in 1945. Because of his skills in shorthand and typing, he was sent to the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
After completing his military service, he attended college on the G I Bill at Oklahoma State University. He achieved a Bachelor's degree in animal husbandry and eventually completed a Master's degree as well. Bill spent many years teaching vocational agriculture courses in high school and taught welding at the Vocational Technical Institute in Drumright, Oklahoma. He led his students in 4-H projects and took them on trail rides and to county fair competitions. Later he was a welding teacher and administered the welding test for Oklahoma state certification. He bred, raised, and trained horses and received many awards at competitions for both his horsemanship and welding skills. He was also a farmer and rancher, and in addition to his beloved horses, he raised cattle, sheep, goats, and a fine flock of barn cats.
In 1950 he married Mary Ann Allen, who preceded him in death.  He was also preceded in death by his parents, sister Bertha and brother Jack. In 2006 he married Mary Coleman, who survives him.  He is also survived by three sons: William (Bill) R. Lewis, Temple, Texas George A. Lewis, Terlton, and Donald G. Lewis, Temple, Texas; grandchildren Alesha K. Nadiziela, Sherri A. Dedic, both of Ft. Worth, Texas, and great grandchildren Sienna and Jaxon. He is also survived by brother Fred and sister Ruth. Others who mourn his passing are his wife's sons, daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren and dear friends Steve and Anni Larkins. All who loved him will miss his calm, slow voice and sense of humor.
