~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The following was lovingly written by Steve's family...
Some knew him simply as Steve,
some knew him as Mr. Q.
and others Pastor Steve,
but most all who
knew him loved him.
Steve was an encourager, a friend, a counselor,
a teacher, a husband of one wife,
a father of two children, a grandfather of ten,
a great grandfather of nine, a bonus father and
grandfather to many others.
He was born in Mississippi
to David and Lillie Mae Quinnelly
on August 10 th , 1946.
His mother took him
to church whenever the doors were open,
and it was in church that he found
his calling and his purpose.
He loved baseball and played the game
from little league through college,
but his love for the Lord is
what led him throughout his life.
At a young age his family of 8 moved from
Mississippi to El Cajon,
California
and years later, during a youth conference
at his church, he drove to pick up his cousin who
had invited a new neighbor from
across the street to join them.
That was the day that Steve met
Connie.
Their love for one another and love for the Lord grew
and on August 30 th of 1968, they began
their life as husband and wife.
In 1971 they welcomed their first child,
daughter Jodi, and right after her
birth,
God called them to Oklahoma where Steve
became the youth pastor at Freedom Hill Baptist
Church, and He and Connie both taught at
Olive High School.
The call to serve the Lord was deep
within their hearts
and God showed Himself strong in their lives.
Soon after, they started Agape.
It was a youth ministry outreach during a time when
the Jesus
Movement was moving
strongly across the nation
and God did mighty things in those meetings.
Many,
many young people came to know
and love Jesus through that ministry.
From there they became
members of the Church of God in Mannford
and later, were founding members
of Mannford Christian
Fellowship.
In 1976, their son Eric was born,
and Steve worked for Piping Engineering
to provide for his
family.
In 1979 Steve and Connie were asked
to start a Christian School
at Mannford Christian Fellowship.
They
once again followed God's call and started,
taught and served there for five years.
Steve was the
principal, a teacher, and coached
various team sports.
In 1984 Steve packed up his family and moved
back to California.
For the next eight years they
attended Harvest church under Pastor Greg Laurie
and
Steve and Connie taught school.
This was a tremendous time of spiritual growth
for the whole family.
In 1993, Steve was asked to return to
Mannford Christian Fellowship as Pastor.
He faithfully taught the
word of God, line upon line,
precept upon precept for thirty years.
During his final year with His beloved
church,
he celebrated his 55th anniversary with Connie
while battling stage four oral cancer.
He always
said he would never retire from preaching
the word in that church,
and he fulfilled that promise.
He
spoke until he could no longer speak
and when he was no longer able to speak,
He preached without
words by living for the Lord
no matter the circumstances.
On the 16 th of October at 5:33,
Steve departed this world
and began eternity with Jesus and his family
and friends who went home before him.
Certainly, the first words of His blessed Savior were
"Well
Done!"
