The following was lovingly written by Paula's family...
Paula Marie Leal was born
on December 20, 1944,
to Paul Neumanand Ida Bourgeois.
She grew up in upstate New York
and graduated in 1963 from
Herkimer Senior High School.
She would continue her higher education
whenever she could
throughout her lifetime.
As a young woman, in 1967,
while traveling for work,
Paula met and married Francisco Leal.
She had two children.
Daniel Anthony and Penelope Angela.
The family then moved from
the east coast to Billings, Montana.
Paula was a wife and homemaker
until their divorce in 1974
and in the early 80's,
moved her children back to her
home state of New York.
Later in 1984 she made the
decision to join the United States Navy
where she proudly served for 7 years.
While enlisted, Paula received
2 meritorious unit commendations,
numerous awards and
a National Defense Medal.
She is a great inspiration
to our entire family.
After receiving an Honorable Discharge,
Paula then moved to California
to be closer to her daughter.
And on Halloween night in 1992,
she met George Donham.
George would become
her love and life companion.
She loved going on adventures
with George and her dearly loved cat Mia.
One of Paula's favorite things
in life was when it
was her turn to drive the motor home.
She also loved touring museums,
working puzzles, playing scrabble,
watching Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy,
The Price Is Right, cooking shows
and playing slots at the casinos.
As life moved on,
Paula found fulfillment volunteering
and in 1996, she became
a certified Red Cross Volunteer.
She volunteered at
Jerry L. Pettis VA Hospital
in Loma Linda, CA. and in
1997 at the Citrus Nursing Center.
In 2013, Paula, George and Mia moved
to Oklahoma to be near her
daughter and grandchildren.
She was very involved in knowing,
nurturing, and supporting her
children and grandchildren over the
years of her life.
She will be very missed.
Paula passed away on
Thursday, January 11, 2024,
at the age of 79.
She was surrounded by her loved ones.
