The following was lovingly written by Mike's Family...
Michael Ray Nunneley, age 62, of Mannford, Oklahoma was born July 8, 1955 to Richard and Mary Nunneley in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He fully embraced life and his family, and thrived on serving his community, until complications from cancer treatment overcame him. Surrounded by his wife and sons, and the compassionate medical team of St. John Hospital ICU, Mike left this earthly life and entered his heavenly home on Tuesday, May 1, 2018.
Mike followed in his father's footsteps with his athletic ability, and was a standout basketball player at Will Rogers High School in Tulsa. Mike went to OSU where he met Kathy in 1973. The two were married on May 25, 1975. After graduation Mike and Kathy settled in Gould, OK where Mike was a teacher and coach. He continued to be an enthusiastic OSU sports fan.
Mike and Kathy moved to Granite in 1981. Mike continued to teach and coach before getting into the banking business. Mike was known for his strong work ethic. He was committed to his family and showed his sons the value of hard work, whether it be hauling hay, spraying yards, farming, or pursuing his great passion of gardening -- but always made time to fish with his sons and attend every sporting event of theirs. Mike was active in the Granite community serving on the school board and served as Sunday school director while attending Lake Creek Baptist Church. Mike's service as mayor of Granite in 1996, led the way for his career in city government. In 2005 Mike and Kathy moved to Mannford where he became the town administrator. He was an active member of Lakeside Baptist Church and loved his community. He was an avid fisherman, and loved cooking and sharing his catch. Mike was voted "Mannford Citizen of the Year" in 2008. He was passionate about spending time with his colleagues and was privileged to serve on multiple boards throughout the state. His strong leadership skills and witty, outgoing personality endeared him to many. In 2015 Mike was recognized as most outstanding city manager in Oklahoma. In 2017 he was inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame for City and Town Officials.
Mike was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Dean Nunneley Jr. He is survived by his devoted wife, Kathy of 42 years and two sons; Brad Nunneley and his wife Kari and their children Kylie Rae and Barrett Michael, of Bethel Acres; son, Kyle Nunneley and his wife Heidi and their children Kate Jordan and Ethan Jayce of Newalla. Parents Richard and Mary Nunneley of Bartlesville and sister Kathleen and Ron Godwin of Riverside, MO.
Mike's family was the light of his life and he was a devoted son, husband, father, and grandfather. He will be greatly missed.
