~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The following was lovingly
written by Mary's family...
Mary was born
on January 15th, 1943, in Tulsa
to George and Anna Belle Melton.
She was the oldest of 5 siblings:
Sisters Roberta, Pam, Mary Ellen
and brother Jimmy.
Mary grew up in Red Fork
and attended Porter Elementary School,
Clinton Jr High and graduated from
Webster High School
where she met and married Carl,
the father of her four children,
Butch, Anna, Lorraine and Robert.
They spent 10 years in Phoenix AZ
then returned to Tulsa.
In 1977 they purchased land in Silver City.
Mary raised the 4 children alone until
she met and married Jay Gordon.
Mary loved plants and flowers of all kinds.
She was especially proud of her peonies
which she grew in her front flower garden.
Mary could grow anything!
Her favorite dog breed was
always Cocker Spaniels,
her best friend when she passed was
her Cocker Spaniel, Chloe.
Creativity was in Mary's blood
as she made and decorated wedding cakes
for her children, grandchildren and
many others who ordered a cake from her.
She liked sewing
and was natural at making anything
with or without a pattern.
She also did silk flower arrangements
for any occasion and did it with perfection.
Mary worked as a waitress most of her life
and many people still remember her from
her 29 years at the Mannford Steer Inn.
She loved all the people she waited on
while working there as well as
everyone who she worked with.
Everywhere Mary went
she would meet someone
she knew from her job at Steer Inn.
She loved people!
Mary was a member of
Mannford Friendship Community Church
for many years.
She often volunteered
to help cook and serve food for funerals.
Many Sundays you would find Mary
at the church singing a song or two
in praise and worship
as a member of the choir.
Mary was always willing to give of
herself for others needs.
