The following was lovingly shared by Lynda's family...

There was a Thanksgiving that all the family had gathered for their normal Fall celebration to give their "Thanks" for the year together by celebrating good food, family, the playing of football outside, watching the game on t.v. and of course, mom, baking the yearly "Turkey".  Mom was making all of her dishes for the day, visiting with family, making the house smell good, look good and setting everything up while everyone was arriving and anticipating the day and the wonderful meal they always shared together.  It wasn't until late in the afternoon that while being so busy and having already put the turkey in the oven that morning, basting it, and always having baked it in a brown paper bag with lots of butter, as mom always said it would be moister that way, that, as the potatoes were being mashed, and the other dishes of the day were being put on the table that mom went to open the oven to check to see if the turkey was about done, that she realized, she had NEVER TURNED ON THE OVEN!  So needless to say, the turkey was not done that year for the Thanksgiving meal and everyone has laughed each and every year thereafter, each Thanksgiving, always reminding each other to "MAKE SURE YOU TURN THE OVEN ON"!  I don't think she ever lived that down, nor any of us for that matter each time we go to put our own turkeys in the oven for Thanksgiving.  So, it surely brings a memory and a smile to our faces to remember that day in our family. She was always the best cook and always made the family get togethers special and always decorated so pretty for the holidays.
