The following was lovingly written by Leonard's family...

Leonard Leroy Gottschalk was born on

October 25, 1935, in Perry, Oklahoma

to Carl and Helen Gardner Gottschalk.

He grew up on the family farm 10 miles southeast of Perry

with his two brothers, James and Ray,

where they grew various crops and raised cattle, pigs, and horses.

Leonard graduated from Perry High School in May 1955,

where he was involved in FFA and the vo-ag program.

Immediately following graduation,

he entered the workforce helping other farmers in the area,

working in the local oil fields, and eventually engaging in construction work

near Claremore, Oklahoma when Interstate 44 was being built.

It was here that he met Alice Wooten, whom he married on January 12, 1957.

Leonard purchased their first home at 609 Maple Street in Perry from

his uncle, Walter Gottschalk, in December 1955.

They wasted no time starting their family.

Leonard’s and Alice’s first child, Jerry Lynn, was born October 22, 1957,

and their second child, Darla Jean, was born August 29, 1961.

Leonard and Alice resided at 609 Maple Street until November 1975,

when they completed construction on their new home and a shop building

south of Perry on Highway 86, affectionately called “the ten acres.”

In 1978 Leonard retired after 20+ years of working at Charles Machine Works (Ditch Witch) as a welder

and engineering liaison and started his own contract welding business.

Leonard retired from the welding business in early 1997,

and they sold the 10 acres and moved to 1301 N. 4th Street in Perry

where they lived happily for many years.

Leonard and Alice both enjoyed traveling, visiting several western states and several National Parks,

and a few years later, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Boston, and leaf-peeping in the Northeast U.S.

in the fall. Leonard later visited Rocky Mountain National Park, Mt. Rushmore, and the Ark Encounter

and Creation Museum in northern Kentucky.

Alice, the love of his life, passed unexpectedly on December 21, 2017.

In November 2019 he made the move to Mannford to live with Jerry and Sherry,

where he lived until his death on June 2, 2026.

Leonard was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at the age of 7, in 1942,

and lived a life that was pleasing to his Lord.

He was a life-long member of First Baptist Church in Perry where he served often

on the building and grounds committee

and was adamant that his family be in church on Sundays and

offered rides to others that wanted to come along.

We have no doubt he is in the presence of our Lord.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
