The following was lovingly written by
Grandma Jo's family....
Josephine Ann "Grandma Jo" Polito, 93,
of Berryhill, Oklahoma,
passed away on March 19, 2024.
She was born on August 29, 1930,
in Omaha, Nebraska,
to the late Joseph Polito and Lucille Welch.
She is survived by her children
Sharon Hancock, Donnie Clary,
Mike Clary (Trish), and JoAnn Fowler;
her sisters Irene Hamilton and Betty Campbell,
brother Bob Maltby, sister-in-law Noni Polito,
daughter-in-law Thetis Hitt,
as well as 12 grandchildren,
25 great-grandchildren,
and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Grandma Jo also leaves behind
numerous nieces and nephews who adored her.
She is preceded in death by
her father Joseph Polito,
mother Lucille Welch, son Ted Hitt,
brother Salvatore Polito,
sisters Patsy Ludwick and Barbara Bengston,
brother-in-law Carl Bengston,
nieces Cindy Bengston and
Shelly Ludwick Kapuchuck,
brother-in-law Darrell Ludwick,
great-niece Deni Eldridge,
stepfather Donald Welch,
and son-in-law Charlie Hancock.
Known affectionately as "Grandma Jo,"
she touched the lives of many
and will be deeply missed.
She was devoted to her family,
enjoyed their company, and loved to laugh.
While her children and grandchildren are
very familiar with "the look" you might
get if you were in trouble,
even that was usually quickly followed
by an ornery smile and laugh.
She was proud of her Italian heritage and her
family spaghetti and meatballs recipe
always had everyone asking for seconds.
Whether she was playing bingo with her sisters,
winning a little money at the casino,
or cheering for the Huskers,
she lived life to the fullest.
She taught the generations that followed her
the importance of hard work.
She continued to work part-time
for several years after her retirement from
Corning in Muskogee, OK.
A funeral service to honor and
celebrate Grandma Jo's life will be held on
April 6, 2024, at 12:00 p.m.
at Lakeside Baptist Church,
located at 1641 N. Basin Road,
Mannford, OK 74044.
Grandma Jo's memory is a blessing
to all who knew and loved her
and she will be missed.
