The following was lovingly written by Gary's family…

At home, surrounded by loved ones, Gary Lee Cate, 75, of Owasso, went to be with his dear Savior, Jesus, on Saturday morning, February 22, 2020.  Gary was born, July 16, 1944, in Tulsa to Stan and June Cate. He attended elementary, junior high, and high school in Tulsa. He graduated from Will Rogers High School.  While attending Will Rogers, he met Jeanne Baker. They were married on January 23, 1966. They recently celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary.

After high school, Gary graduated from Pillsbury Baptist Bible College in Owatonna, MN.  Then, he completed a Masters of Divinity degree from Central Theological Seminary in Minneapolis, MN.  He graduated early and first in his class in college and seminary.

He worked as an intern at Tulsa Baptist Temple, a youth pastor in Pekin, Illinois, a pastor in Valley Center, Kansas, and then served as the pastor of Collinsville Baptist Tabernacle for 40 years.  Pastor Cate genuinely loved his wife, 3 kids, grandkids, great grandkids, family, friends, and church family. He is known as being someone who lived what he preached. He was humble and grateful even in the most difficult situations.  He abundantly loved pastoring, preaching, and spending time with people face to face. He walked with countless families through the ups and downs of life. He was passionate about telling others about the hope of Jesus.

He also loved football and played during junior high, high school, and college.  He loved to cheer for the Oklahoma Sooners and knew all things about college football.

Gary is survived by his wife, Jeanne of the home and children, Chad & Mamie Cate of Collinsville, OK, Tiffany Cate & James Phelps of Collinsville, OK, Amanda & Jimmy Smith of Denver, CO; his stepmom, Marjorie Cate of Tulsa, OK; his siblings Donna & Nelson Leeman of Foley, AL, Dee & Bill Glenn of Mannford, OK, Rick Goins of Broken Arrow, OK, Cliff & Michelle Goins of Glenpool, OK, Brenda & Howard Bonner of Mannford, OK; his grandchildren Johnathon, Kimberly, Justin, Jordan, Callie, Cara, Ozzie, Gabe, Michael, A.J.; and his great grandchildren Jocelyn & Aria; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Gary is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jerry.
