~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
At the time of her passing on February 10, 2021 she was 84. In June we started seeing some of her health issues take a toll on her. Then in October she battled COVID which only increased her health issues. She lost her appetite which led to greater weight loss. She stayed strong and her spirits were good at times. In the end she had me laughing because she wanted me to get rid of all of the junk mail. She kept telling me to get rid of the junk mail, so in true country form I told her I took it all outside and burned it. Speaking of burning trash one of my memories of her would be when she would burn trash. She would slip on her rubber boots and walk across the yard with her t-shirt and knee length shorts on. What a sight she would make. Another favorite memory is of her milking cows and taking care of the baby calves on the Maloy Dairy (that her son operated). She would mix up the bottles for the baby calves and place them in her red wagon and off she would go to the calf barn.
One of Cora's favorite stories to tell was about the time that she and her younger brother Pete were at home alone and they were getting hungry. They decided to kill a couple of chickens to fix for supper. Mom said she felt so sorry for those poor chickens and what they went through. She said her and Pete made a real mess of them, but they sure were tasty. She also told us stories about loading up in her dad's truck and going to town which was not that often and they would get a treat of ice cream. Oh how she loved her ice cream.
Mom knew who I was up to the end and we were able to tell each other I Love You. Every Halloween (which was her birthday) we will continue to celebrate and decorate in her memory. To say the least, Halloween is one of our family's favorite times of the year. She loved seeing her Grandsons dress up and she would sit out on our front porch and watch the kids trick or treat. She loved being with her grandsons teaching them to bake cookies, taking them how to fish, watching them play sports and most of all camping. She spoiled them rotten just as a grandparent should. There wasn't anything that she would not do for her boys. The boys brought her true joy. Her face would light up at the sight of them. Thank you mom for being the Nana you were to them.
Born and raised country and a country girl forever. Now her fight is over and she has joined Dad in heaven watching those hounds chase coyotes and back in the country. We are so blessed to have had her as my mom, mother-in-law and Nana. As we all know every family has good times and bad. I choose to remember the good times. For we are only here on Earth for a short time, but we are in heaven with our Heavenly Father for Eternity. Mom I will forever miss you, but I know you will be watching over us and smiling as you watch Dale and Chase become the men they are to be. They both loved their Nana terribly as they would say We Love You Nana. Rest in peace and enjoy your angel wings!
