~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Claude "Wayne" McCoy was born February 13, 1941, to Elmo Marie and Claude Devolt McCoy at their home in Sand Springs, Oklahoma.
The youngest of 4 siblings, he spent his days venturing around Bruner Hill. Wayne served in the United States Army with his brother, Jim, for 3 years on the buddy system, so that they could stay together.
Wayne met his lifelong love, Betty Lou, when they were just teens and married her on October 21, 1961. They welcomed three daughters in the years following, Julie, Sherry and Shelly. He and Betty lived happily married for 60 years.
Wayne loved the Lord and loved to serve others. He helped establish the Owasso Baptist Children's Home, as well as helped establish Lakeside Baptist Church in Mannford in May of 1983, where he served as a Sunday School teacher and church deacon for many years.
If you knew Wayne for long, you knew he had mastered the art of storytelling. He loved hosting annual hayrides for the children of the church and telling stories like "The Man With The Golden Arm," one of his favorites that taught everyone who heard it lessons on greed.
He had a knack for mischief, coining the term "cheatin's fair" and passing along that ornery streak to all 9 of his grandchildren. For most of his life, he was an early riser and a creature of habit — you could expect to hear Paul Harvey share with you "the rest of the story" through his morning radio, smell coffee brewing, and find him and Betty at the dining table doing their morning Bible studies together.
He was a generous man, donating to organizations such as John 3:16, St. Jude Children's Hospital, and due to his guilt of stealing gas as a young man for his motorcycle, he spent the next 60 years paying back the Salvation Army — and continued these acts of service even after his passing, through his decision to be an organ donor.
His love for his community was only surpassed by his love for his family. He was quick to share updates on his children, 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, beaming with pride and talking as long as you would listen.
He truly lived his life as "The Man With The Golden Heart," living every day with compassion and a giving spirit. He touched many lives throughout his time here on earth, and he will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
